IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO HAVE A 3D PRINTER: YOU NEED THE SOFTWARE TO TELL IT WHAT TO DO.

Just as the Raspberry Pi needs Python to tell it what to do, 3D printers need software with instructions for telling it how to print objects.

The good news is that Tinkercad is a free, open source, easy-to-use app for 3D design, electronics, and coding. It’s used by teachers, kids, hobbyists, and designers to imagine, design, and make anything on a 3D printer.

The video below shows you the easy steps to using TinkerCAD to print objects using a 3D printer.

Also, for more information on TinkerCAD, visit their website. It has a wealth of information. Of course you can use commercial computer aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD if you like but that software comes with a big learning curve.

I have friends who although they know how to use the expensive commercial CAD software, prefer to use TinkerCad for 3D printing because it’s faster to create most designs.
